“Working with your spot or issue is a means of taking responsibility for your own healing”
Today’s session went reeeeaaalllly fast. Wow. In morning ceremony, the theme for the day was set as working on an area or issue that needs attention. Asana started with seated hip openers/twists, progressed through abs, then turbo dog AND dolphin just as warm ups for inversions. We did an extra option for abs by doing agni sara (pumping the belly into & out of uddiayana WHILE upside down in forearm balance “diving god” variation (looks like frog position in the air). Very entertaining to pump the belly while upside; made me giggle alot.
Spent a lot of time on inversions & it was quite a highlight. Teacher trainees & graduates of previous TT programs got to pair up and work away from the wall on handstand and forearm balance variations. We did variations on both into: straddle, twisted root (eagle) legs, and half or working into full lotus.
With the support of my lovely spotter (Heather!!), got my first full lotus in handstand away from the wall by sneaking & snuggling the foot across. Only worked on one side but there might have been a “woo hoo!!” when I got it. Ana & an assistant Cat both helped me improve my spotting techniques for handstand & forearm balance which was awesome. I love spotting folks into handstand & anything that helps me help them while protecting my own back is a good thing.
Last part of class was B series into hip-opening standing poses, with scissors & twisting scissors thrown in just cuz.
Afterwards, got cleaned up & went downtown with my friend from my own TT. We wandered around New Haven for like, two hours, because not everyone else agreed with us that 10 am is an appopriate time to be serving lunch! Went to JoJo’s Cafe, and a combo Bookstore/cafe for chai lattes before settling in for an Indian buffet feast. Yummmmm….
Just being lazy now. Plotting perhaps staying for a second class with one of the Fresh teachers after the intensive. Hey, I’m all warmed up already by then!! : )
