Social Networking Yoga?
Friday, July 3rd, 2009A few months ago, I was encouraged (pushed? : ) onto Facebook & it’s become this strangely healing thing.
There’s a ubiquity & shallowness to cyber-connectedness that we joke about and it’s an interesting cultural dynamic & shift in communication means on a macro & micro level, etc etc, overeducated overnalysis, yadda yadda yadda, I’m an old fogey, go re-read Marshall McLuhan, “the medium is the message,” okay that’s out of my system! : )
But, I love it. For long periods I actively pushed people away… Spent a lot of high school & college & even into grad school & beyond acting out in ways that – how shall I put this? — make for great anecdotes now. : )
Who I wanted to be seemed incompatible with having a past. It was this toxic combination of general messed up thinking, & the belief that to make a fresh start, I needed to disappear, preferably to India.
I went to India (more on that later) but rather than disappearing, constantly sent out mass emails of my adventures & kept up a busy correspondence with the rockin’ boy who is now Beloved Husband. Returned to the US, life got happier, and it became my job to connect with students every day. That was a needed shock to the system, wow.
Now, a few years into Life 2.0, finding old, dear friends online shows how we’ve all been in the midst of our developmental dramas over the past 10/20/30 years & we get to easily offer each other little life snippets of news & support & humor.
Putting all the characters I care about onto the same stage is awesome. Mock my daily Facebook check if you will; I know it’s another means of union, of yoga. : )
(The other means of yoga today is gonna be Forrest 5 Day Intensive, Disk 1 or 2, 2 hrs, soon as the yoga room heats up & I can get this cat off my lap!!)
